A GREYHOUND CHRISTMAS - 2006

A wonderful time was had at the HCF Greyhound Christmas party this year, including the greyhounds, inmate handlers and volunteers. Each greyhound received a big treat sack, filled with tasty treats and a toy. We also played "Musical Dogs" - think musical chairs, with pieces of paper on the floor...when the music stopped and a greyhound (and handler) was out, another piece of paper was removed. Darlene and Angel took first and second place - Alex (well, Alex's handler) came in last. Thanks to so much outpouring of Christmas giving, love and kindness, we were able to buy every one of the 14 HCF greyhounds a new bed. The 2 greyhounds at the Toronto work facility received new beds, too. Here are some pictures of the pile of beds and some of the greyhounds laying claim to their own bed.

The Beds!

Some of the greyhounds lounging on their new beds and chewing large rawhides provided by Abe, Tammee & Sassee.

A huge "thank you" goes out to Dr. Renee Hurst, Sandra Poage and patients of Advanced Chiropractic Center - Hutchinson, Kansas. Dr. Renee and Sandra put up a small Christmas tree in their office, along with pictures of all the TLC greyhounds, with treat and toy suggestions. Dr. Renee's patients were SO generous in bringing in great stuff for the prison greyhound Christmas party. We'll be able to share treats with the prison greyhounds for several months.

WOW! AWESOME RESPONSE TO "BUY A PRISON GREYHOUND A BED FOR CHRISTMAS"!

We can't believe the response to our gift suggestion - everyone's generosity has been overwhelming! Several people asked that their gift be in memory of, or in honor of a loved one, so we've listed names and honorees. We couldn't find the 40x40" beds, but found some really nice 40x50" ones - for about $10 more each. Since our friends and supporters have been so kind, we're trying to upgrade to larger beds for the prison greyhounds.

CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA

It's time for new dog beds for the greyhounds at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility, as well as some of our greyhounds being fostered in kennels. The beds we bought three years ago look like two pieces of ragged cloth sewn together. Somebody suggested that we post a note on the website for anyone wanting to "Buy a Prison Greyhound a Bed for Christmas". Please don't send actual dog beds - we have to buy them all at the same time and they have to pretty much be alike. A $20 donation will cover the cost of one bed - you may send your tax deductible check to the TLC office address (listed above). Please be sure to specify that it's for the "Buy a Prison Greyhound a Bed" fund.
