In cooperation with the Kansas Department of Corrections, TLC Greyhound Adoption is placing greyhounds for foster care in the Hutchinson and Toronto Correctional Facilities. Each dog has 2-3 handlers who teach him/her general house manners and basic obedience. Most greyhounds leave the program knowing how to walk nicely on lead, and the sit, down, stay, and come commands. Some are even superstars -- DC, one of the first 2 dogs to enter the program mastered an incredible 68 commands! Edee, an HCF parolee was rated #1 Obedience Greyhound (AKC Obedience Trials) in the nation for 2003! Some of these greyhounds are now therapy dogs, some live in group homes and care facilities, and some have gone on to just enjoy the life of spoiled family pets.

The dogs usually stay within the correctional facilities for 3-6 months. The adoption fee is $175.00 which includes spay/neuter, shots, and a sighthound collar. To see if your family would qualify to adopt a greyhound, please refer to our adoption application. If you are interested in making donations for this program, please refer to our Wish List.
